We train Service Dogs for the following programs: 

  • PTSD (Civilian)
  • PTSD/OSI (veterans, first responders, nurses, etc)
  • Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome/Hypermobility Spectrum
  • Autism
  • Conditions related to EDS/HSD

PROGRAM SERVICE DOGS

Applications are currently closed.  We are not accepting a wait list at this time. Updates will be shared on social media and our website. 


Upon placement of a Service Dog, K9PAD charges an Training and Equipment fee of $2000. It covers Team Training, and some supplies and equipment.

Eligibility

Client Eligibility Requirements (Program Service Dogs)

K9PAD has minimum eligibility requirements that must be met in order to be considered for a K9PAD Service Dog. Meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee acceptance into our program.  With the application and interviews, K9PAD will determine suitability for our program. This list does not include all of the eligibility requirements.


Requirements

  1. Client must be 18+
  2. Client must have a documented permanent disability that impairs their daily life.
  3. Client's medical condition(s) must be stable
  4. Client must be able to participate in private and group training classes with other clients and volunteers.
  5. Client must have a medical practitioner support the need for a Service Dog. Our program as well as the province requires medical documentation.
  6. Client must require a minimum of 3 disability related tasks.
  7. Must require a Service Dog for one of the following disabilities (PTSD, TBI, EDS and related conditions, a physical condition that impairs mobility or requires the use of a wheelchair, POTs, or similar conditions)
  8. Client must reside in Nova Scotia and be able to travel to HRM for Team Training, follow-up training and re-certification as required. 
  9. Client must complete all required application documentation.
  10. Client must be able to attend training in a variety of locations including grocery stores, malls, medical establishments, parks, training facility, and others as required.


(Our goal is to ensure the best possible matching between client and Service Dog. Our application process may take a couple of months to ensure suitability. An approved application does not guarantee successful matching.)

 K9PAD has minimum eligibility requirements that must be met in order to be considered for a K9PAD Service Dog.   2. Client must have a documented permanent disability that impairs their daily life.
  3. Client's medical condition(s) must be stable
  4. Client must be able to participate in private and group training classes with other clients and volunteers.
  5. Client must have a medical practitioner support the need for a Service Dog. Our program as well as the province requires medical documentation.
  6. Client must require a minimum of 3 disability related tasks.
  7. Must require a Service Dog for one of the following disabilities (PTSD, EDS, Autism, and related disabilities.
  8. Client must reside in Nova Scotia and be able to travel to HRM for Team Training, follow-up training and re-certification as required. 
  9. Client must complete all required application documentation.
  10. Client must be able to attend training in a variety of locations including grocery stores, malls, medical establishments, parks, training facility, and others as required.
  11. 75% attendance is required. Lessons are weekly.
  12. Client must be able to take their dog out 3+ times a week for training at parks, outings, socialization, etc.


Our Client-Trainer Service Dog Program application process is more in depth than for our Program Supplied Service Dogs. Clients who may be eligible for our Program Supplied Service Dogs is not automatically eligible for our Client-Trainer program. As this program requires a much higher level of involvement and dedication, careful consideration must be made.
